Who are we?
Snakeconservancy is an education, research and conservation project focused on herpetofauna.
The project was founded in 2024 by the young herpetologist Luca Colla.
Luca Colla
Young herpetologist, he is the creator and founder of Snakeconservancy.
He has been passionate about herpetology since he was just a child and grew up with the goal of protecting and introducing people to these amazing animals.
His research is mainly focused on the epidemiological investigation of ophidiomycosis in snake populations in northern Italy.
His goal is to study these animals to better and better understand their ecology, ethology and biology, all for better conservation of them.
As a scientist he feels the responsibility to bring the rigid and often difficult concepts of the research world closer to people through outreach projects; the animals he loves so much can be conserved only through understanding .
What is our goal?
Snakeconservancy was founded with the goal of bringing people closer to the world of herpetology and mitigating human-snake conflict.
Our mission is to help in the conservation of herpetofauna around the world through education and research projects.
In addition, we want to improve the living conditions of captive animals by trying to make enthusiasts more aware of the ethological and biological needs of their animals.
What do we do?
Snakeconservancy acts as a meeting point between science and the public through:
– Outreach events
– Lectures to privates, students and public agencies
– Documentary production and photo collections
– Scientific research
